1.) Peace School - We'll hear the story of Moses and the Israelites and the Ark and the Tent. The visual below is of "Joshua and Jericho" representing the fourth section of our Bible Storyline - "Conquest and Settlement." With this age group we are not doing the story of Joshua leading the people into Canaan. We instead focus more on the story of the people covenanting with God. Joshua renews the covenant that began with Moses, and many judges and priests continue the covenant after Joshua. Today, how do we know where God's home is, where sacred space is, and who we are committed to? I have not had those conversations with my two children much, but they do ask why we go to church. It's also fun to ask them why they go to church :-).
2.) Practice - Parents, here's an activity to do at home together during the week from Building Faith, an Anabaptist resource. This week's is "You Are Not Alone." It's a reflection on All Saints and remembering people who have died.
3.) Pray - During the week consider praying a portion of The LORD's Prayer from The New Zealand Prayer Book copied below (or choose to repeat another one of your favorite prayers). Big words, but amazing how quickly younger children can memorize and then take a lifetime to add meaning.
4.) Learning to Serve - As we prepare for Thanksgiving, and celebrate the harvest of food this fall, here's another video about DenUM's Food For All. Consider specific ways your family can work towards all children having enough to eat on a daily basis.
