The Mentoring Program is open to all MYF, with the hope that participants will select a mentor from the congregation during their 8th grade year, and start meeting their freshmen year. For those interested, there is a $1000 Mentoring Gift from the congregation for any pair that meets at least 6 times a year for 3 years (so 18 gatherings). Gatherings should be briefly summarized and turned in to the Mentoring Coordinators and Pastor Tory at the end of each year. A picture of each gathering is also a benefit so we can share them on this blog. However, we want everyone interested to be involved, so if the 6 gatherings a year feel too stressful, they are not mandatory to be participate (only mandatory for the $1000 Gift).
The primary intent of the program is to provide a specific adult to walk alongside our youth during their teenage years. We hope our children are mentored by the entire church village, and yet this is a chance to have one relationship clearly defined and intentional. Time together can range from group gatherings to time just as a pair. They should include some intentional conversations about faith and life, but they should also include time sharing each others' hobbies and interests. As long as the Mentor, Mentee and parents approve, the options are limitless.
If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact Pastor Tory, or 2015-16 Coordinators Kris and Ligia.
