Matthew 5:38-48 continues to be one of the most difficult passages to understand and follow for people. It is simply so much easier to love those people who treat you well, and to hate people that you do not get along with. It happens in our families, neighborhoods, schools, churches, denominations, work places, and nation to nation. To care and pray for someone that mistreats you regularly is one of the hardest spiritual practices I know of in my own life. It even cuts to the core of my own identity on how much I love myself when I do not live up to my own expectations. How do you keep showing love to those how hurt, ignore, hate, and oppress you? Have you ever been loved by someone that you have treated poorly?
