Advent 4 – The Path of Love - “The song inside us all”
Mary’s song is not new. It’s a song that has been sung throughout the Old Testament. And I believe it's a song that we are invited to, and a song that's truly inside of us all!
Mary's lyrics remind us of themes and values from Genesis, Exodus, Jeremiah, Isaiah, Micah and other books, and from today!
Mary’s words are reminiscent of Moses and Miriam, judges like Gideon, prophets like Nathan, Kings like Josiah, Queens like Esther, and so forth.
This is not new. But it is news:
It’s news that we’ve been hearing, reading, learning and reflecting on since August in Peace
Hello FMC families,
Thanks again to everyone who helped make the Children's Christmas program a meaningful worship service. I realized that I have not been in a full worship service since Oct. 11, and I know it's been the same for Andi and Sarah (let alone Gary, Nikki and others). Thanks so much for supporting our children and youth in this annual opportunity. While performing is always fun, I hope that the emphasis continues to be the deeper meaning of hope that Christ brings. Too often we're distracted by consumerism and make Christmas too commercial. May God's hope in Christ find all our families this year.
This week we continue learning about Advent and the birth of Christ in the younger classes, while the JYF continue reading Revelation and the MYF continue reading Matthew and the Sermon on the Mount.
Please note that there are no classes on Dec. 27, but there will be classes on January 3. Also note that the Christmas Eve service will start at 6:30 and end around 7:15pm (pre-service music will start at 6pm, and there will be hymn singing afterward in the community center to sing all our favorite carols if people want to keep singing). We're intending it to be family friendly with a shorter service, but also note that there will not be any childcare this year.
Finally, a few notes about the Spring! Please keep an eye on the calendar dates in the Weekly for the Venture Club (3rd-5th), JYF, and MYF (I also keep an extended calendar for each age group on their Story Site tab).
Praying that commercialism doesn't consume your Christmas experience, and that your happiness is rooted in hope, and that your joy is rooted in God's saving justice for all :-).
Hello Peace School Families,
A few notes for this week:
1.) Dress Rehearsal Saturday, 8:30am. We'll be done by noon, and hopefully by 11am if everything goes smoothly enough. Again, this is only for the K-12th graders involved -2's and Pre-K should NOT come to this rehearsal.
2.) If you have a speaking part in the Christmas Program, please practice your part without holding the script. This is a good way to see how much you already know, and which parts are tricky.
3.) Sunday - Christmas Program - If you are participating this year, plan on being at FMC by 9am to prepare downstairs. We'll be doing any costumes needed, and warming up our voices in the Commons.
4.) Parents on Sunday - please reserve your seats as this is often a full Sunday for the congregation. Also, Rod Stutzman will be photographing the play, but I'm wondering if one or two people would be willing to video it. Doesn't have to be fancy, but something for those wanting a recording. If you're able and interested let me know.
5.) Please note that we are planning one hour services now, so Sunday Worship should end by 10:30am, and therefore Peace School and Adult Ed. will now be 10:45-11:45am. Hope that means our kiddos are a bit more amicable in services, and get to lunch (and naps) a bit sooner. :-)
If you have any questions regarding the Christmas Program or Dress Rehearsal, don't hesitate to email/text/call!
