Today's reflection is about the "length" of Christmas. Advent traditionally is four Sundays before Christmas Day. But when should the Christmas season begin? Already we start getting adds soon after Halloween to buy things. Should they start this early? Why do they start in early November? If the main goal of celebrating Christmas longer is to buy more things now, then how can we celebrate Advent longer to fully embrace what it means to wait? What is the difference between Advent and Christmas? How can we bring out the best for the Advent season, including our preparations for Christmas Day?
I wait for Christ as I buy gifts.
I wait for Christ as I watch and listen to ads.
I wait for Christ as I decorate, bake and wrap.
I wait for Christ as I wait to consume more stuff.
I wait for Christ as I wait to indulge more sugar.
I wait for Christ as I wait for more refreshing snow.
I wait for Christ as I wait for my family and friends to all come together.
I wait for Christ as I wait for _____.
I will wait for Christ and Christmas for as long as it takes.
Read and Pray Mary's Song from Luke 1:46-55
Serve - Today's idea is to follow the lead of the JYF and VC and give thanks for your neighbors. Maybe even take them a few cookies, candy canes or fruit simply giving thanks for their presence in your life/lives. And also remember the church December Diaper Drive.
