Similar to last week, this chapter continues with the story of Moses and the Hebrews leaving the empire of Egypt. But it's one thing to leave abusive systems, and it's another thing to change your habits. Just because we move or start new relationships, it doesn't mean that we instantly change our behaviors and habits. McLaren reflects on the challenges that the Israelites now face with their freedom.
This chapter still connects with:
MYF overview of the Pentateuch/Torah this September and October
VC lesson on Oct. 11 with the third section of the Bible Storyline, the "Exodus to Sinai."
K-2nd lesson on Oct. 25, "The Ten Best Ways"
Pre-K lesson on Oct. 25, "The Ten Best Ways"
*JYF - In a more removed way, this chapter connects with the ongoing theme in Revelation of finding hope in the midst of persecution by an empire. For Moses it was Egyptian Empire. For Jesus, Paul and the book of Revelation, it was the Roman Empire.
