This week's readings deals with one of the most difficult subjects in the Bible - violence. McLaren offers an option of how to read through Joshua and other challenging texts in a way that doesn't ignore them, and doesn't hold them up as examples either. Is there another way to read the Bible that honors it as our historic testimonial with God? What's the use in being authentic in our storytelling? Furthermore, is this nation authentic with it's history? Our church? Our families?
This chapter still connects with:
VC lesson on Oct. 18, "Joshua Renews the Covenant," from the fourth section of the Bible Storyline - "Conquest and Settlement."
K-2nd lesson on Nov. 1, "Joshua."
