This chapter reflects on Moses and his calling to lead slaves out of the empire of Egypt. McLaren reflects on how we follow a God that cares for the slaves instead of the slave owners and those in power. Likewise, what does it mean to hear and follow this calling of our God? Did Jesus hear a call in the desert, and a message of freedom from the abuse of those in power?
This chapter still connects with:
MYF overview of the Pentateuch/Torah this September and October
VC lesson on Oct. 11 with the third section of the Bible Storyline, the "Exodus to Sinai."
K-2nd lesson on Oct. 25, "The Ten Best Ways"
Pre-K lesson on Oct. 25, "The Ten Best Ways"
*JYF - In a more removed way, this chapter connects with the ongoing theme in Revelation of finding hope in the midst of persecution by an empire. For Moses it was Egyptian Empire. For Jesus, Paul and the book of Revelation, it was the Roman Empire.
