Peace School - Genesis is two books, chapters 1-11 and 12-50. Why is this? How do they have similarities, and yet different authors and purposes?
Deeper reflections: What does it mean for me to be called by God? Are we all called in some manner similar to Abraham?
What does it mean to be "blessed" and "chosen"? Is there a difference between being "special," "unique," or "selected"?
How does Christianity, and other religions (& the non-religious), understand being special and chosen? Does the USA view itself as special and chosen in a similar fashion as Abraham and Sarah?
Reflect - As we discuss the Pentateuch (first five books in the Bible) in September and October, you are encouraged to read a chapter a day (or 7 chapters a week). If you started last week, that would mean continuing this week with chapters 15-21 in Genesis. This section includes Abraham and Sarah, Hagar and her son Ishmael, Isaac and Rebecca.
WATCH - there's also an interesting Jewish site with videos about Genesis. A few videos are linked at the bottom of this post.
Pray - Work on practicing a daily time of intentional prayer. There are many resources online and ways to pray. One simple one (but can still be deep) is to pray the LORD's Prayer. Below is the New Zealand version.
Serve - Consider how you will be part of a bigger community this week. What is one specific action you can take to serve someone else, and how do work at making it part of a long-term and mutual relationship? MCC is one global effort. Below is a video if you'd like to learn more about 'My Coins Count' and how we use the coins we collect on Sundays. Do you know what SALT is as you consider your future as a young adult?
