Peace School - This week we continue our annual four week series on Intimacy and Relationships. Using "Body and Soul" from Menno Media, this week's topic is "Honoring the Gift of Sex."
How do you know when sex is good? There are many messages about who to have sex with, and in when to have sex. However, the deeper question revolves around meaning and identity - what does sex mean in our life, and what does sex reflect in our identity? Doubtful these questions can be figured out in one conversation. For most people they are part of the lifelong journey. I pray that we all find meaning in sex that deepens our appreciation for God's gift of life, and that draws us into deeper intimacy with another soul.
Reflect - The reading for this week is the Song of Solomon. It is a rare example in the Bible where sexuality is explored and celebrated. Too often sex is summarized in a word or sentence in the context of a larger story. However, here is a story centered around a couple's romance, and their desires for each other. Although the images are over 2,000 years old, the basic story is easy to understand.
Pray - Work on practicing a daily time of intentional prayer. There are many resources online and ways to pray. One simple one (but can still be deep) is to pray the LORD's Prayer. Below is the New Zealand version.
Serve - Consider how you will be part of a bigger community this week. Here is another short video about DenUM's Food For All project that we'll be joining on the 22nd after Peace School.
