This Sunday we continue Revelation with Chapter 14. We'll wrestle again with what it means to be "chosen," and what it means to be part of God's "harvest." What does it mean to be set up, and to be life giving and worthy of being "picked"? Maybe this is similar to making a sports team, or auditioning for a theater or musical spot. With matters of faith, what is the point that we should take from Revelation today? Are we really set apart as people following God and people following something else (Devil, evil, empire, money, etc.)? Does this passage give us hope as we journey with God, or fear to make sure we journey with God and "make the cut"?
Psalm 23 is our centering prayer this season of Epiphany. While Christmas focuses on the birth of Christ, John's Gospel focused on Jesus as the light of God. This season of Epiphany do we feel the Light (Jesus) of God in our daily living? Is there light in Revelation while the Beast and the Empire wreak havoc and death and destruction? May Psalm 23 provide comfort and grounding in the midst of tragedy, terror and depression.
