This school year the Junior Youth Fellowship will be considering what it means to be Mennonite. We'll be doing an overview of the Bible through the lens of an Anabaptist Christian. Many people claim to be Christian, and yet Christians to not live one way. We hold different values, worship differently, and read our story (the Bible) quite differently. What connects us as Christians, and what is unique about Anabaptists?
More importantly, where is God calling you right now?
Schedule of questions and conversations for the first part of this year:
1.) Creation stories emphasizing God's character - are we created out of original sin or love? Do you feel drawn to good or evil?
2.) Fall stories emphasizing our nature- did creation fall, find grace, or continue a journey? What are you on a journey towards?
3.) Family of Genesis - how do we follow God and stay tied to family? How do your parents care for you and follow God?
4.) Exodus to Sinai - God is a redeemer and savior, so what do we need to be saved from and saved for? Have you been saved?
5.) Conquest by Joshua - does God love everyone? Do you live life in a privileged way, or as an outcast?
6.) Book of Judges - is there a cycle of grace, repentance, and learning about our shortcomings? When have you changed for the worse and for the better?
7.) Kings and Prophets - do we really want a king/president/priest to lead us? What are we willing to give up for leadership, and what do we gain with leadership? Who/What do you long for in life - are we all just consumers?
8.) Temple is destroyed - What does prophecy have to do with life? Is prophecy about the past, present or future? Are you prophetic?
9.) Diaspora as people live beyond Israel - where is God, and how do we find God? What are the holy spaces/times in your life, and where do you see God?
10.) Expectations for a Messiah - do we still seek Messiah's today, especially during presidential elections and pastoral searches? Is Jesus enough of a guide in your life?
11.) Birth of Jesus - what kind of statement did God make with Jesus? What kind of statement is God making with you.
