This week we will watch a short video that considers how God created. Too often creation is a scientific debate between Christians. However, maybe a deeper question than science is how these stories reframed the source of life for an entire Empire. Babylon and other groups often had creation stories that used violence and destruction to create life. The Jews offered a different understanding, that life was "Good" and that God wants a relationship, not an empire.
Today we can reflect this political season on whether the USA was created out of violence and/or hope. We can reflect on whether our parents created us out of violence or love.
How we think about the beginning of anything influences how we live day by day at home and school. Are you creating goodness and relationships? Are you buying into the messages that violence is the only way, and that you need to fight to survive in school, sports, family and friendships?
As a centering daily prayer consider this version of the LORD's Prayer:
Earth-maker, Pain-bearer, Life-giver,
Source of all that is and that shall be,
Father and Mother of us all,
Loving God, in whom is heaven:
The hallowing of your name echo through the universe!
The way of your justice be followed by the peoples of the world!
Your heavenly will be done by all created beings!
Your commonwealth of peace and freedom
sustain our hope and come on earth.
With the bread we need for today, feed us.
In the hurts we absorb from one another, forgive us.
In times of temptation and testing, strengthen us.
From trials too great to endure, spare us.
From the grip of all that is evil, free us.
For you reign in the glory of the power that is love,
now and for ever. Amen.
